Kerala presents delightful natural greens, beautiful beaches, cruises, sand, and surf. Once a small village that thrived on the fisheries business, Kovalam has modernised and maintained its crescent beaches. But tourism is heavy in Kovalam now as it is a preferred beach destination of Kerala. Kovalam is a small town which lies a few kilometers away from the capital, Trivandrum. The exotic location, coconut groves and three wonderful beaches drive most of the tourism in this place. The three major beaches include the Lighthouse Beach at south end, Hawah Beach in the middle, and Samudra Beach towards the north. Local fishermen can also be hired for an entire day in case you want to go fishing in the deep sea. There are some safe zones recommended for swimming and surfing, which are guarded by lifeguards. Shoppers can grab unique handicrafts designed by the local artisans, who are known to create beautiful rose wood and teak wood artifacts. Kovalam has a big market consisting of booth shops where one may choose from the abundant coral artifacts.
