Mussoorie, named after the mussoorie plant, is a city of institutions, waterfalls and innumerable hotels. It lies in the middle of the picturesque Garhwal mountain ranges that are vegetated by towering pine trees. Mussoorie belongs to the hill state of Uttrakhand and lies at an altitude of 2500m. Mussoorie’s tourism industry is at an advantage because of its proximity to some of the major places within India. It is 34 kms from Dehradun and 300 kms from Delhi. On the other side, it is also close to some major religious destinations such as Kedarnath, Gangotri and Rishikesh. Traveling on your own? Holding enormous relief for visitors from the plains, this small hill town has shaped up into a competitive tourist spot with sightseeing being the major activity. The hotels and restaurants here facilitate one’s stay with their comfortable accommodation and good food. Most hotels offer all the modern facilities. Mussoorie also has modern shops and restaurants so that tourists can enjoy their time shopping and strolling on The Mall. The hill town was a favourite of the British with Captain Young making Mussoorie his home in 1820.
