The hill city is sprinkled with many sightseeing attractions.

Heritage Train

The biggest attraction of Ooty is its Heritage railway track along with its tiny railway station. The narrow gauge railway track runs from Ooty to Mettupalayam to cover a distance of 46km. The Toy Train also connects Ooty to Coonoor. Plans to start this railways track came about way back in 1854 but the first train rode the track only in 1899. One of the most fantastic journeys in the world, you can’t wait to admire the dense rain-forests as you undertake this 4 ½ hour journey.

Botanical Gardens

This is a town with a long history. The Government Botanical Gardens of Ooty came to life as early as 1847.The picturesque gardens maintained by the Horticulture Department of the state are spread in an area of around 22 hectares. The gardens preserve more than 650 species of plants and trees, including a 20 million years old fossil tree.

Ooty Lake

If you are in love with outdoor activities then a visit to the Ooty Lake is a must. This 2.5 km long lake is visited by several tourists who enjoy boating and fishing here. Remember, you will require a day permit for fishing.

Dodabetta Peak

Resting at an altitude of 2,623 meters, Dobabetta Peak is the highest point in the area, which also makes it one of the best photo resorts around Ooty. Merely 10 km from Ooty, you can head straight to the peak with your camera and binoculars. The peak offers a magnificent view of the town beneath and is perhaps the best sight for photography.

Lamb's Rock

Lamb's Rock is another ideal location for photography. A popular picnic spot, it is 9 km from Coonoor.

Kodanadu's View Point

At a distance of around 16 km from Kotagiri, Kodanadu’s point is located on the eastern edge of the blue mountain range. It has a watchtower with a view of the Rangasamy peak. Watch the incredible dance of the Moyar River alongside the tea estates of the region.
