Men must remove their shirts to enter the Gayatri Mandapam.

Cameras and mobile phones are permitted only in the outer prakaram.

Pujas are performed five times a day. On full moon days, Vasanta Navaratri and Saradha Navaratri days, special Navavarna, Kanya and Suvasini pujas are performed.

The Golden Chariot is taken in a procession around the temple on Fridays around 7 pm.

Sankara Jayanti is celebrated for 10 days in the Tamil month of Chithirai (Apr-May), when the Soundaryalahari (verses composed by Adi Sankara on Kamakshi) is recited by a priest in front of the deity at around 7 pm, during which time no one else is allowed to enter the sanctum, as it is believed it is Sankara himself who is in communion with the goddess.

Navaratri is a grand time to visit the temple. Every evening the goddess, dressed in a different alankaram and wearing rare and special jewels, is taken out in a procession.
