With tribal areas on the outskirts, this town is the entry point to the famous Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Also frequented by tourists for its nearby islands and its Tsunami struck beach."
Port Blair is famous for being a significant base for the Indian Coast Guard, Indian Navy and the headquarters for the Tri Services Command. The township is known for its picturesque beauty and relaxed ambiance. Water sports such as snorkelling are a major attraction for a large number of tourists. The quiet town once housed the ruthless cellular jail of the modern times but today is famous for its nearby barren islands such as Chatham and Ross. Corbyn’s Cove beach is another tourist hot spot that was destroyed to a great degree by the 2004 Tsunami. One should avoid entering the restricted tribal areas while they explore the lovely Island.
