The largest city of Assam, Guwahati (gauhati) earlier known as Pragjyotishpura meaning 'the light of the east' is an enchanting city with diverse ethnicity and cultures. The mighty river Brahmaputra flows right in between the city delicately splitting it into two halves. It is a splendorous terrain complimented by green hills, beautiful wet lands and plush flora and fauna.
Once the historic capital of undivided Assam,Guwahati (gauhati) is now a cosmopolitan city and the commercial hub of Northeast. This alluring city on the banks of the river Brahmaputra features a deluge of ethnicity and cultures from all across the state and the neighboring places. The city is encompassed by lush greenery and it is the home to numerous age old temples that attracts both pilgrims and nature lovers to the place. Peacock island, that is believed to be the smallest river island in the world, sheltering the splendid Umananda Temple is just another pride of the city. The sacred Kamakhya Devi Temple is also located in Guwahati (gauhati) and is thronged by millions of devotees and visitors.

"Such a beautiful place"
reviewed on Jun 22 2014
Guwahati is a very nice city in the banks of Brahmaputra river. I enjoyed with my family and i can tell you this that it is a very good place for holidays and people looking to go for vacations. The best thing about the city is its culture, i liked it a lot. Most of the things are old and the living standards of people are also pretty simple. There are many places to visit specially the Kamakhya Temple which is very famous. The river cruise on the the Brahmaputra river is one of the major attractions of Guwahati. So overall it was a good place to visit.
