One day trip to Ahmedabad can cover a lot! Better known as Manchester of the East for all the textile mills present in the city, Ahmedabad is also the biggest city in the state of Gujarat. From splendid Hindu-Islamic architecture to Gandhi's Sabarmati Ashram, the city has a lot to see and do. However, if you have only a little time to spare, here is a one day trip plan to Ahmedabad.

Start with a heavy breakfast and head out for Sabarmati Ashram. The Gandhi ashram is the top tourist attraction of the city. It served as Gandhi's base site and an important centre of activities during India's struggle for freedom. The ashram also houses some rare pictures of Gandhi and a letter penned by him to Adolf Hitler in 1939. It should not take you more than 2 hours here.

The second destination on this day tour of Ahmedabad is Sidi Saiyad Mosque close to the Lal Darwaza area. Apart from its religious value, the mosque is known for its beautiful architecture. It was built in 1953 and has intricate latticework on the ten windows of the mosque.

Post lunch, Jama Masjid (less than a kilometer from the restaurant) is the next stop. You will be driving across Ellis Bridge and take SH 17. You can reach the mosque in 20 minutes. It is revered as the oldest and most beautiful of all mosques of Ahmedabad with the mesmerising interplay of light and shadows that goes on in its archways.

Continue your day trip of Ahmedabad towards the Bhadra Fort. The quickest way to get here is to steer towards Jawaharlal Nehru Road. Built by Ahmad shah in 1411, this formidable structure houses the revered Bhadrakali temple and a beautiful palace. Keep aside atleast an hour for the fort. Just 3 km from the fort lies the Hathi Singh Jain Temple. This architectural beauty is dedicated to Dharmanatha, the 15th of Jain Tirthankars. Brilliant carvings on the front dome are a must see.

You can spend your evening relaxing at the Kakaria Lake. It is an amusement park cum lake with plenty to keep anyone enthralled for hours. This is especially a great spot if you are with kids. The train ride around the park is highly recommended. If you prefer a quiet time, the lake side benches should work for you. The lighting of the lake in the evenings is especially pretty. In case this isn't your cup of tea, try visiting the Vintage car museum instead. This is a big draw for the lovers of wheels. The museum contains numerous vintage classic models, some of which you can take out for a spin as well.
