Meera's Temple in Chittorgarh was one place which left an indelible print on me. The complex is so quiet, so serene, so totally free from commercialization, that if you listen closely, you can almost hear Meera humming her songs of devotion. It really is incredible.

Here's a picture:

Another incredible temple is the Karni Mata Temple near Bikaner. This one is sure to give you the jitters! The place is home to over 20,000 rats, who share their place with the pilgrims. These furry creatures are all over the place, in the sanctum, in the prasadalaya, in the galleries, every where! I was in and out of the temple in about 10 minutes, being a ballerina all this while (walking on my toes!).

Take a look why:

I can think of three temples,

1. Dhyanalinga, Isha Yoga Center, Coimbatore

2. Matri Mandir, Auroville, Pondicherry

3. Temple under Padmanasambhava Idol, Rewalsar, Himachal Pradesh

These I have found to be conducive for meditating and sitting in peace for a while. The first two are maintained well so that people are encouraged to meditate and sit for a while. Not just rush in and rush out. Infact Matri Mandir is brilliant as only 30 or so folks can visit at one time. There are different slots of time to visit the temple for new comers and for frequent meditators.

Buddhist temples are also great place but usually they are not maintained so in case a big tourist group is around when you are there, then its a noisy mess.

Pic is of the Golden Temple at Bylakuppe, Karnataka.

Wow! I can imagine what it would be like in Vrindavan in the evening around the Arti time! :-)

I hail from the temple city of India, Vrindavan. A holy play ground of Lord Krishna. I have been to length and breath of India and visited many holy places and shrines. The most soothing experience I have had at Keshi Ghat Vrindavan on banks of Yamuna Ji. Apart from that I have visited to almost all the temples of Vrindavan to name a few, Banke Bihari ji, Radha Vallabh ji, Seva Kunj, Radha Raman ji, Rang Nath ji, Isckon Temple, the newly built Prem Mandir. Apart from that I have been to Haridwar, Rishikesh, Vaishno Devi, Naina Devi temple which was a great experience. Down south I have been to Tirupati, Vellore and Jagannath Temple in Puri..

And here is the modern Birla Mandir in Hyderabad built in fusion style of North and South India, overlooking the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad from Naubat Pahad

Hampi has some of the most incredible temples that are there. Virupaksha is of course the grandest!

As discussed by some already, Hampi has one of the best collections of temples and assorted stuff... I personally love the Krishna Temple with its intricately detailed artistry depicting warfare of those times...

If I have to pick something more unique, I think I will pick that temple atop the Sach Pass. at a height of 4400 mts. On that treacherous road people just pray for a safe journey.

Wow! Amazing pics Jitaditya! :-)
