History

Asiana Airlines was established on February 17, 1988 with an aim to create an additional flag carrier for South Korea, as per the policy of South Korean government. The airline flew its first flight on December 1988 to Busan. Based in Seoul, South Korea, Asiana was founded by the Kumho Asiana Group, a South Korean conglomerate. Now, the airline is a member of the Star Alliance group.

Moving Ahead

Asiana Airlines has been undertaking many changes recently to lend a modern look to its current corporate identity. In February 2006, they rechristened their flight classes from First Class, Business Class and Economy Class to First, Business and Travel class, respectively. The airline has recently given a new look to the uniform of their cabin crew.

In 2001 the airline was given the ATW Passenger Service Award followed by Airline of the Year award in February 2009 by Air Transport World. Fleet Asiana Airlines has 31 narrow and 29 wide body aircrafts in its fleet apart from nine cargo aircrafts. Their narrow body aircrafts include Airbus A320-200, Airbus A321-100, Airbus A321-200 and Boeing 737-400, while the wide body aircrafts comprise Airbus A330-300, Airbus A350, Boeing 747-400, Boeing 747-400 Combi, Boeing 767-300 and Boeing 777-200ER. Recently, Asiana Airlines added two more flights a week from Chengdu to Seoul in June 2009, thus increasing the number of flights.
