Great location and tour guide!

by Yoda146 on 19 Jan 2017

We stayed here for one night recently before continuing to the east of Zanzibar. The hotel staff were very accommodating and helpful, suggesting places to visit etc.- nothing was too much trouble for them. The accommodation has quaint rooms, with air conditioning. The hotel is situated in the centre of Stone Town and you can easily walk round if you have a few hours. We decided to hire a tuk-tuk for a couple of hours. Abduly was our tour guide and he was amazing! He took us round the narrow stre...

Good Location in Zanzibar

by ben-marilynb on 16 Nov 2016 (Family Traveller)

While we were visiting Tanzania, we flew over for one night in Zanzibar at Al Johari. The hotel is located in the middle of Stonetown. We went on a walking tour that started at the hotel and lasted three hours. We were able to easily walk to the night market for dinner. The room was nice. Zanzibar is majority muslim. You could hear prayers throughout the day and into the night. The included breakfast was a egg dish, fruit, juice and hot drink. Al Johari met our needs very well.

Pleasant Stay

by Patricia M on 25 Oct 2016 (Couple Traveller)

We spent two nights in the Al Johari. The hotel itself is in a good location but it can get a little noisy, as other reviewers have mentioned. The room we stayed in was a nice size with a comfortable bed, fridge, aircon and many windows. The bathroom was also great with hot water. The TV didn't work but we weren't in Stone Town to watch it so I didn't bother mentioning anything. Neither did the electric sockets by the bed for the lampshades but again this wasn't a big deal, we plugged our phones...

Excellent blend of the old with the new!

by Aliasgher Z on 24 Oct 2016 (Family Traveller)

Al Johari Hotel is an old zanzibari house that has been beautifully transformed into a homely hotel. It boasts elegance, class and beautiful antique decor. I arrived into Zanzibar on the daily ferry. I was meant to check in at 5:00PM in the evening. By 7:00PM had not checked in. The hotel called me to find out if everything was ok and if I needed any assistance. The staff is especially responsible and very very friendly. The manager is very hands on and Al-Johari being quite a small hotel, th...

central but noisy

by robertdenooy on 13 Sep 2016 (Couple Traveller)

we spent one night here before we flew back to AA. The staff was friendly, the room large and clean and equipped with an AC, which was quite necessary to suppress the surrounding noise. Breakfast was okay, but the view from the rooftop restaurant was not impressive. Besides the windows were quite dirty. The price was very reasonable and they arranged a taxi to the airport without further ado.
