about alamagir mosque

Built in 1669 by Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, Alamgir Mosque has an interesting history behind it. Aurangzeb, the destroyer of Hindu temples, built this mosque on the ruins of a Hindu temple which he had demolished. Due to this, the mosque displays a unique blend of Hindu and Islamic architecture. The name Alamgir was a self-imposed title that Aurangzeb adopted when he became emperor. The mosque is located on Panchganga Ghat, a ghat commonly used for cremations. Important thing to note is that non-Muslims are not allowed inside the mosque.
