A special permit is required to visit Lakshadweep, to protect the interest of general public of the island, about 95%  of whom are scheduled tribes. As per the rules every person who is not the native of these islands has to obtain the form from the administrative officer at the Lakshadweep office in Kochi (or through Goa Tourism if obtaining the Goa-Agatti flight) for visiting or residing here. Only Government Officials, Armed Force members etc. visiting these islands and their family members are exempted from this. It is imperative for foreign nationals to have a pre-booked accommodation in order to obtain this permit (restricted to the islands of Agatti, Bangaram and Kadmat, plus transit only (max. 12 hours) in Kavaratti.
