All about autowalas in India

4 people found this answer useful Useful ?Yes

We all have argued with Autowalas at least once in our lives, and it’s quite draining to make them understand our logic behind everything. Here’s how you can avoid the much heated conversations with these “full-time Rajinikanths”.

Mumbai

If you call an autowala, “bhaiya” in Mumbai, your request will be unheard. After all, they are not related to you by blood! ;-)

Do not, we repeat, do not touch the meter as they don’t like anyone messing with the device.

Kolkata

There are no personal autos in Kolkata so be prepared to squeeze in when a shared auto comes your way! Try your luck, you never know an autowala might just agree to take you alone.

Make sure you do not talk negative about Didi (Mamata Banerjee) or else you’ll have to bear with their looks (which are not so pleasing).

Chennai

Make sure you know Tamil (no Hindi, strictly!) or else you will be charged insanely high by Chennai Autowalas.

Bangalore

It will always cost you more time than necessary to reach the location, thanks to the autowalas who always prefer taking longer routes, irrespective of how close your prefered destination is.

You will always have to pay INR 20 extra, no matter how much your fare comes out to be.

Delhi

Don’t ask Delhi Autowalas to go by meter. Their meter always has some or the other problem!

In case you are unable to find a U-turn on the road, be ready to listen to the autowala's non-stop blabber.

You will be charged few bucks extra in case you get stuck in a traffic jam or get too late in the night!

Three people can take the same auto. But if there are four, the driver will have huge problems in accommodating you all in the same auto. Only if you are ok with sitting with the driver in the front seat, and the driver too agrees to it, you will be eligible for the seat.

Hyderabad

There’s no meter system in Hyderabad. Be prepared to give whatever fare the autowala charges you.

Don’t be surprised if an autowala runs the auto like a superhero. No left, no right, no turn and no traffic rule, what matters to him the most is the destination!

Make a note of the above mentioned points before you take an auto in your city!
