about avantiswami temple

Located 28 km from Srinagar, Avantiswami Temple is named after the first king of the Utpala Dynasty called Awantivarman.  The twin temples of Lord Vishnu and Lord Shiva were built by him during the 9th century. However the temples witnessed mass destruction during the medieval ages, such that much of this once beautiful architecture lies in ruins. The discovery of the temple occurred during a large scale excavation operation which also yielded a rich crop of antiquities like coins and ancient birch manuscripts. The temple ruins exhibit intricate carvings and graceful sculptures which promises to hold your attention from the moment you step here.
