about ayasofya hurrem sultan hamami

The Ayasofya Hurrem Sultan Hamam in Istanbul was designed and built by Mimar Sinan, the chief Ottoman architect. The hamam was operational until 1910 when it closed for many years. It was later used to house the convicts during times when the nearby Sultanahmet Prison was full.  Although the hamam was built in the classical period Ottoman bath style, it was an innovation in Turkish bath architecture to have the sections for men and women constructed on the same axis as mirror images of each other which was not the traditional discourse usually.

The hamam tradition is very ellaborate where it is absolutely customary to soak in for a long while and de stress and pamper oneself. recently it is also used as a part of entertainment and social gatherings. The Ayasofya Hurrem Sultan Hamam reinterprets these traditions in a modern way and offers many forms of luxurious treatments as well as a inhouse restaurant.
