about bangalore palace

Built by Rev. Garrett, the first Principal of the Central High School in Bengaluru, it was bought by Chamarajendra Wodeyar in the year 1873. Built in Tudor-style architecture, the Bangalore Palace is adorned with magnificent woodcarvings. The palace holds resemblance to the medieval castles that were built in Normandy and England. Once surrounded by beautiful gardens, now the palace is not what it used to be. But, it still succeeds in attracting tourists. Gothic windows, fortified towers, battlements and turrets lend a great degree of magnificence to the Bangalore Palace. Mainly constructed of wood, it features splendid carvings and paintings.

Once the residence of the Wodeyars, it now serves as the venue for various concerts, exhibitions and cultural programs held in the city. The palace has a massive open square courtyard with granite seats (decorated with fluorescent blue ceramic tiles), a ballroom, the Durbar hall along with a number of paintings of Raja Ravi Varma, a dining table of the Diwan of Mysore--Sir Mirza Ismail, a chair to weigh jockeys and Coat Of Arms among the others.
