Thiksey Monastery, Ladakh

The Thiksey Monastery in Ladakh looks like a smaller version of the Potala Palace in Lhasa. It is about 600 years old. This religious structure, which is painted red, ochre and white, is a classic example of Ladakhi architecture. The 12-storey monastery complex contains numerous stupas, statues, thangkas, wall paintings, swords and a large pillar engraved with the Buddha's teachings.
