Most eating places are on or just off The Mall. Himachal Tourism’s Ashiana
Restaurant, right on The Ridge, is very popular. Alfa on Scandal Point gives
good food. Devicos has Indian, Continental and Chinese, and a bar. Baljees is
hugely popular, with a choice of Indian, Chinese, Continental and Thai cuisine.
Barista, Café Coffee Day, Subway and Domino’s (takeaway only), and Sagar
Ratna (South Indian) have outlets on The Mall.

Trishool Bakers, next to Gaiety Theatre, has good confectionery. Embassy, near the Lifts, has nice window seats and good food. Combermere Restaurant on The Mall is a glass-and-plastic atrium affair with tasty European-style food (about
Rs 200 a dish). There’s also a decent bakery — Rs 30-40 gets you a huge slice
of chocolate cake. Worth a visit after an afternoon stroll on The Mall. For the
ultimate dining experience, there’s always The Oberoi Cecil. Sumptuous cuisine served in the midst of wood panelled and chandeliered elegance.

Try the chhole bhature at Sita Ram’s in Lakkar Bazaar. Dhabas are commonplace
in the Lower Mall bazaars. Don’t walk with food in hand on The Mall, it’s an open invitation to rob to the many monkeys here!
