Located inside the campus of BHU, among the oldest educational institutes of India, Bharat Kala Bhavan was founded by Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya. Established in 1920, it became the property of BHU in 1950, and it was then that the collection was transferred to university campus and the present building was inaugurated on 31 January, 1962. The museum displays India's heritage and preserves the past. It is divided into various sections in the form of galleries, including Mahamana Malviya Gallery, Nidhi Gallery, Nicholas Roerich Gallery, Archaeological Gallery, Chhavi Gallery, Sculpture Gallery and Decorative Art Gallery.

The museum houses a rare collection of precious artifacts, a number of Mughal miniatures, paintings, Buddhist and Hindu sculptures, pictures, manuscripts, contemporary art form and bronze statues from 1-15 CE, brocade textiles, which are of great archaeological importance. There are many other objects of visitor's interest including mental craft, pottery, ivory goods, jewellery, terracotta beads & rare collection of Rajasthani, Gujarati and Pahari miniature paintings.
