about bharat mata temple

The only temple dedicated to Mother India, Bharat Mata Temple was built by Babu Shiv Prasad Gupt and innaugurated by Mahatma Gandhi in 1936. Situated within the campus of Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapeeth, the shrine houses a beautiful three dimensional marble structure. The most interesting thing about Bharat Mata Temple is that instead of the customary gods and goddesses, it houses a relief map of undivided India, carved out of marble complete with plains, mountains and oceans.

A unique temple and a symbol of patriotism, this temple is placed amidst the natural beauty overlooking the Ganges and the holy ghats. Shaped like a pentagonal cone with five pillars supporting the structure, this temple is a popular tourist attraction of Varanasi.

This is a one-of-a-kind temple dedicated to mother India. It has a huge stone carved replica of the Indian peninsula at the centre that highlights the unique geographical features of our country. This place is quite close to the railway station.
