The best part about Bhopal is that you drive for 30 minutes and you are out of the town. A short hour’s drive from Bhopal lies Bhimbetka, a place that you may never have heard of but absolutely must visit. These prehistoric rock shelters have cave paintings dating back 30,000 years. It is absolutely mind-boggling to see traces from the Palaeolithic Period, and in such good condition. There is an authorised car parking for you to safely park your vehicle. The paintings are crude and made using prehistoric tools like stone axes, etc. The colours in most of the paintings still hold strong and are visible, despite being exposed to the elements for thousands of years.

Bhimbetka is a world heritage and is very near to bhopal. It have so many cave painting of ancient times, which we can observe from very near. You will never get tired by roaming in the area, but do take eatables/ drinks with you as there is only single shop near the caves which does not have much things.

I went there two days ago on a cloudy weather and it was an amazing place for me. there you can see various view points and various rock paintings which were done in the ancient times. A brief description is given about the various rock shelters on the boards. An entry fees of 25rs will be charged per head for two wheeler. Lush green atmosphere is all around and the rock shelters are surrounded by various green trees. Its a place to visit once and a satisfactory place for the family trip.
