The mutt espouses various altruistic causes. It is also a platform for the hoi-polloi to voice their concerns. To get a darshan of His Holinesses Sri Jayendra Saraswati and Sri Vijayendra Saraswati, go either at 8 am or after 4 pm.

Shopping at Kanchipuram

Your 1 day trip to Kanchipuram cannot be completed without some saree shopping. There’s only one kind of shopping done in Kanchipuram. And that’s buying traditional silk saris. The best time is in the afternoon, when shops are empty. There are over a hundred shops, genuine and seedy, that sell silk and cotton saris. There are also cooperative society run shops named after political parties, castes and other affiliations.

It is true that almost every home in Kanchipuram houses a pit loom because 75 per cent of its population is involved in the weaving business. But the thumb rule is to go to the bigger ones if you want a genuine silk sari. Gandhi Road is a good place to browse! In addition to shopping, you can also explore other things to do which are equally interesting.
