Can you tell me something about the Sikki crafts found in Bihar?

A Mithila craft hailing from Bihar, Sikki is a classic example of how something as simple as river-side weed can be aesthetically transformed into objet d’art. The grass, called Sikki, is first dried in the sun until it acquires a golden hue. These golden strands are then woven into lengths of rope. As simple as it may sound, this is a painstaking process that requires ample patience.

Some strands are also dyed in different hues. The strands, then, magically transform into various shapes in the hands of the craftsmen — anything from a simple round box with a lid, an elephant, a tortoise, a bird, a snake or a bag.
