about catacombs of paris

The best example of Paris's unpleasant secrets, the Catacombs of Paris are an underground ossuary with skeletel remains of over 7 million people. It is said, the catcombs were created due to the overcrowding of Paris's cemeteries. This journey through Paris's past may be shocking, yet it will not cease to surprise you at every corner. The limestone walls here are adorned with poems and prose symbolising this unusual underground space and its belongings.

You may be surprised to see the remains or bones stacked together to form artistic interpretations of the Romantic era. Some skeletel remains are lined alongside the walls while some find themselves strewn about in a unique manner. This amusing and unknown fact of Paris's past may leave you with an unsettling feeling yet it is a must visit to experience this city as it is. The gates of the ossuary open at 10 in the morning but if you don't want to miss out on this timeless tour, it is suggested to reach way before time.
