In context of Hinduism, Navratri literally means ‘nine nights’ where the nine forms of Goddess Durga is celebrated. Chaitra Navratri is celebrated in March-April and the reason to celebrate Chaitra Navratri is to worship Goddess Durga. Chaitra Navratri is celebrated in whole of India, especially in the northern states. This Hindu festival is very popular in states like Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab. In most of these states, a huge fair is organised to celebrate Chaitra Navratri. In Maharashtra, the celebration begins with ‘Gudi Padwa’ and in southern states like Andhra Pradesh, it begins with ‘Ugadi’.
