about chapora fort

One of the most loved forts of Goa, Chapora Fort gained more popularity after it was featured in the bollywood movie, Dil Chahta Hai. Dating back to 1717 and the Portuguese rule in Goa, this fort was built in place of an older fort on the same location after the Maratha-Portuguese war. Lying in ruins now, the fort was an attempt by the Portuguese to reinforce their stronghold over the Goan territory and prevent further conflicts.

Surrounded by steep slopes and breathtaking vistas of Pernem, Chapora River and the Vagator beach and the hills around it, Chapora Fort can leave one with a resounding sense of peace and calm. Given all this, the fort has become a major attraction for photographers for its sheer aesthetic beauty, and of course, a great spot for people to replicate the Dil Chahta Hai pose!
