While it may be a little tough to find the North Indian style Dhabas in Chennai, but the city has its own share of small mess style joints serving a range of cuisines from Chettinad to traditional South Indian food, there is no shortage of amazing local food in Chennai.

Karpagambal Mess

Right in the centre of Chennai’s temple town Mylapore, this small joint can be smelt from a distance with the fragrance of ghee and sugar lingering in the air. It serves authentic Tamil Brahmin cuisine. The Ghee Dosa as the name suggests is packed with loads of ghee and the Kal Dosa (made especially when the man is leaving the house in the morning and has less time for breakfast), which is thicker than the usual dosa is a speciality here.
