about china garden 83

This legendary chef-owner's Kemps Corner's restaurant continues to draw regulars to its backlit, onyx-walled, black granite and Thai silk detailed interiors. Nelson and Eddy Wang have on offer a menu of 280 dishes and a choice of many sauces (Yellow Bean Sauce, Red Hot Lemon Sauce, Taipan Sauce, Schezwan Pepper Sauce and more). You can order any veg or meat of choice with these. Sure, the fine tuned to Indian palate fare has many a fan. Okra, cauliflower, and potatoes do bhangra and dandiya raas with kothmir, red chillies and raw onions. Jain, Punjabi, Gujarati, et al. seduce the taste buds. So what if purists cringe? Garlicky Gin Chicken, Pepper Chicken, Paneer Pepper Chilli, and Kung Pao Potatoes are hot-sellers. Raw onions on the Sunset Red Pepper Chicken are not my cup of tea (neither is the Jasmine Tea here). I recommend the Special Authentic Gourmet Oriental menu, especially the light Gourmet Tim Sum (particularly the Steamed Fish with Black Bean with a rebellious whisper of ginger). Smoked Chillies with seafood or chicken and Baked Honey Chicken Soong, both delicacies, are best ordered ahead. The unusual Fish with Black Olive, the Spicy Beans with Water Chestnuts and even the bland but flavourful tofu and mushrooms delight. The downside is that even if you book a table you may end up waiting. And it may get noisy (even though kids are not allowed for dinner). Veggies, check out their mock meat menu.

Well if I were to say that the Manager(Tao Sean) and service at China Garden is pathetic, poor, piteous, wretched, hapless and miserable then that would clearly be an understatement defining China Garden. Once reputed and ever so welcoming China ...... read more
