about the roman colosseum

As the largest amphitheater in the world, The Roman Colosseum, is also shaped as an elliptical piece of architectural marvel. Built by the Flavian dynasty in around 70 AD, it was a structure that was dedicated to the Roman public.Just outside the Colloseum is the Arch of Constantine , a 25m high monument built in AD315 to mark the victory of Constantine over Maxentius at Pons Milvius.

Gladiator fights were the prime spectacle that were also considered a huge part of games and bets that the public played, garnered mass attention here which was centered around who emerged victorious and who finally went to the gallows, where fierce, hungry felines were kept.

Besides this, The Roman Colosseum was also used as a spot for the depiction of animal hunts, mock executions, and other theme based enactments, often commenced or followed by a word from the emperor. One of the greatest works of architecture by the Romans, this structure was made of concrete and stone and and could house at least 80000 spectators. Parts of this enormous structure have been ruined over time by fires, earthquakes and thievery in different eras, but it still stands tall and magnificent despite its ruins as a reminder of survival.
