about day trip to betla national park

Spread over an area of more than 1300 sq ft, Betla National Park is an integral part of Project Tiger. The flora is mainly comprised of Sal forests, bamboo thickets, teak trees and other evergreens. Though it harbours a very rich biodiversity, Betla is one of the best places for elephant sighting in the country. If you get really lucky you might spot a tiger or a leopard, but these sightings are quite rare. There are a number of watchtowers scattered around the region, which though a bit rickety, give you some fantastic views of the wildlife in the area. Make sure you pack your binoculars and camera along for a trip here. The park is also home to jackals, civets, mouse deers, porcupines, antelopes etc.

As far the the feathered beings are concerned, you might spot red jungle fowls, quails, partridges, crested serpent eagle, drongos, forest owls, teels, snipes and geese amongst others. Living inside the park in perfect harmony with the wilderness, reside 8 different local tribes which are spread over 200 villages. Historians might be intrested to know that there are remains of two 16th century forts belonging to the Chero dynasty. The park also contains waterfalls, meadows and hot springs. Though the maximum wildlife spotting occurs during the hot summer months of May till July, the best time to visit the park is from October to March.
