about sitapur

Sitapur is located just 2 km away from Kamadgiri, on the banks of the Payaswani river. It is the place where Lord Rama is believed to have lived with Sita. Today, pilgrims first take bath in the Payaswani river, before beginning the Parikrama (circumambulation) around he Kamadgiri mountain.

This place was originally known as Jaisinghpur. It was given to Mahant Charandas by the king of Pana, Aman Singh. Charandas later renamed the place as Sitapur, after Sita devi, the wife of Lord Rama. The numerous temples and ghats lined up along the banks of the river add a picturesque charm and glory to this small town.
