From Bombay, coming by bus, what's the best itinerary? Has any one tried it?

Here's what I am planning, will have to try it out to know how painful / comfortable it is

Take an overnighter to Hubli (reach around 6 - 7 am). From Hubli, there are buses to Ankola / Karwar every 15 mins between 6 am till 9 am. There is also a direct to Gokarna bus at 8 am (service by public transport company NWKRTC). This will take about 4 hours.

There is also the option of taking an overnighter to Madgaon and then taking a local public transport (either Kadamba or NWKRTC) to Karwar / Gokarna. But I want to avoid the accident prone Bombay - Goa highway (NH17).

Thanks. Unfortunately Canara Pinto schedule does not work for me. I was looking for a Friday night departure (after work). I want to avoid flying as much as possible (backpacker code ;-)
How about Mumbai to Goa train followed by 3-4 hours of another bus ? http://www.ixigo.com/by-train-rail/mumbai-to-goa-by-train
My first option was train. In fact Konkan Railway connects me to Gokarna, three - four trains in fact. But by the time I got to fixing my trip, it was already Wait List in the 100s.
Cool !

Check out our page on how to go from mumbai to gokarna by bus

Canara Pinto Travels runs the most reliable buses for this.

The alternative (faster) way is to go from Mumbai to Goa by flight and then Goa to Gokarna by road .
