about ganesh temple

Dedicated to Lord Ganesh (the Elephant God),  Ganesh Temple is located in Ratananda, which is about 5 km away from the main city. Lord Ganesh is one of the better known and widely worshipped Gods in the Hindu religion. Not just Hindus, his devotees come from the Buddhist and Jain sects as well. Ganesha is considered as the lord of beginnings and remover of obstacles, which is why, he is the first God to be prayed to and honoured at the beginning of holy rituals.

Ganesh Temple is said to have been constructed at the same site where a long time ago, a teacher spotted a huge Ganesh statue on the Ratananda Hills. Today the temple has the idols of Riddhi (Prosperity) and Siddhi (Spiritual Power), Ganesha's consorts on either side of Ganesha in the sanctum sanctorum. Just inside the temple entrance, there is an idol of Naag Dev or the Snake God. All these idols are said to have emerged by themselves from the rock outface.

This place is considered to be a huge tourist attraction. Most of the devotees in the temple are unmarried men and women, who come here to pray for a suitable life partner. Usually a sacred thread is tied while asking for the wish from the Lord, and the devotees come to the temple for the next 7 Wednesdays, with the faith that their wish will be fulfilled. From the hilltop, you will get an awesome view of the Mehrangarh Fort and the city spread like a blue carpet down below. This place is breathtaking especially during sunset. A number of festivals like Ganesh Chaturthi and Saavan Mahotsav are celebrated here in a big way.

A very small temple...can be too easily missed if you explore the fort properly. It is very close to the fort gardens.
