about grand mosque

Center of Dubai's spiritual & cultural life, the  Grand Mosque, is one of the largest mosques in Dubai. Known for its imposing 230 feet minaret, Dubai's tallest, the minaret is also where non-Muslims are allowed to enter and click pictures of Dubai's illustrious skyscape.

Set just south of Dubai's only Hindu temple, Grand Mosque over the years has undergone two re-buildings, with the one 1960 being closer to its original design in 1900. Established originally for the purpose of teaching Qurán, Grand mosque's unadorned, old world charm blends in seamlessly with the ancient town of Bur Dubai that lies a short distance from it. While the mosque is devoid of any motifs or elaborate artwork, if you peer closely at the entrance facade, you can make out the Quranic inscriptions embedded right above the five columns.
