about gujari mahal

The Guajri Mahal in Gwalior is a historic palace that was constructed in the 15th century by Raja Man Singh for his wife Mrignayani. Queen Mrignayani was a Gujar princess, hence the palace got its name as the Gujari Mahal. The palace was built on the demand of the queen, who wanted a palace to herself with regular water supply. Fulfilling the same the palace was constructed near the Rai River.

In 1922 the palace was transformed into a museum by the Government of Madhya Pradesh and came to be known as Central Archaeological Museum. It houses 28 galleries and some 6000 artifacts with exquisite collection of paintings, sculptures, inscriptions, terracotta, coins, pottery and ammunition. 3000 years old antiques of the 2nd century can also be found in the museum.
