about gwalior zoo

Established by the royal Madhao Rao Scindia in 1922, the Gwalior Zoo is a part of a larger garden called Phool Bagh and houses various exotic animal species like golden peasants, sambhars, bison, hyena, spotted deer, black bucks and white tigers. Several smaller varities of crocodiles, snakes, monkeys, and birds have also made the zoo their home.

The 8 hectares of zoo-land has been declared to be a protected site and is maintained by the Municipal Corporation of Gwalior as part of its inheritance. The Phool Bagh was inaugurated by the Prince of Wales a hundred years ago, and it continues to be well-maintained even today.

This zoo is not that big as other big cities have yet it has beautiful deers and peacocks. Monkeys are abundant and one can easily see every animal in a couple of hours or so.
