The well-known travel bug is not known to discriminate between the genders, we hear. And when bitten by this restlessness-inducing virus, women get struck (and sadly, alas!)  at an all-important issue of their safety while touring places, unlike their male counterparts. Talking of Mumbai, ascertaining how safe the dream city of India is for its fairer sex is quite an intriguing issue and subjectively viewed from most angles.

While social conservatism is still prevalent on public spots of Mumbai, the city relatively ranks higher when it comes to providing a safe working and social milieu to its women. However, certain general guidelines are important to follow in order to safely enjoy your trip to Mumbai as a single woman travellers. Here are some-

  1. Try to make advance bookings as much as you can-be it your accommodation, taxis, restaurants, etc.

  2. Act confident and try not making enquiries from strangers.

  3. Keep some speed-dial numbers and some self-defence devices handy.

All these, and many more cautions apart, Mumbai comes across as quite a popular destination in the hit-list of women tourists, given its impressive cultural, historical and commercial standings. Gender awareness seems to be more or less gaining mileage in this commercial and entertainment capital of India. catching public transport even at midnight is not a worry if you are acquainted with the basics of public transport here. Renting home-stays for women is considered normally a safe and affordable option. Most streets in Mumbai remain occupied with vehicles and walkers all through the night, thereby avoiding that forlorn, deserted look.

Moreover, over the years, many exclusively women-centered groups have sprung up that engage in touring and travelling both across India and the world. Some popular women-only travel clubs are-Girls on the Go (+ 91-99205-82628 ), Women on Wanderlust (+91-9891655054), etc. These groups allow you some sisterly bonding as you unwind yourself in the beautiful terrains of the Indian subcontinent.

Now, why to constrain yourself when your heart constantly screams to fly? A heavy dose of enthusiasm, planning and precaution is all you need. So, ladies, jet, set and go!!
