Gujarat is known for the enthusiasm of its people and the way they celebrate each and every festival. Holi celebration in Gujarat is the most vibrant of all and is celebrated with great joy. It basically marks the beginning of harvest celebration. Lighting of bonfires during Holi is a very important tradition in Gujarat. A bonfire known as Holika is decorated with flowers and fruits and people offer corn, coconut and khoya to it and seek blessings. Another famous tradition in Gujarat during Holi is breaking of earthen pots, which are full of butter and are tied high on a rope. In order to break the matki, hundreds of people participate in the event by forming a human pyramid. The person who breaks the matki is crowned as the ‘Holi King’ of the locality. Dhuleti, which is celebrated the next day involves a lot of fun and frolic activities like throwing of colors and water on each other, feasting and so on. The best part of celebrating Holi in Gujarat is the artificial drizzle shower known as rain dance.
