Hotel The Lotus , panchkula

A lodge rather than a hotel. Pros: walking distance from kalka railway station, in the main market, on the main road, hot water available. Cons: poorly maintained, dirty linen/blanket, no pillow, found difficult to catch sleep due to too loud noise from the adjacent room (lack of privacy). No kitchen thought they get food to the room, from the adjacent restaurant with little extra charge. I was okay with that. Found it okay for an overnight stay.

This was a super cheap place to stay and some negative reviews made us a bit wary but we were given a wonderful welcome by the hotel staff and shown to a more than comfortable room, so don't be put off! This is a great place to stay before getting the toy train to shimla surrounded with lots of lovely food places and kind friendly people. It's walking distance to the station too. The best part about the hotel is that it's just near the kalka railway station. As we had to catch the toy train next day at 5:20 am so staying near the station was a good idea because we don't had hurry and all the things. Our stay was ok, service ok too. At the cheap rate it was fine stay.

This is a typical hotel what you would find near bus stand, railway stations etc. If you are looking for a room that is better than railway waiting room at Kalka station just to hang on for a night to catch the toy train next morning, you can stay in this hotel. I had booked an a/c room, which is on the 2nd floor and had to climb steep narrow stairs. You will not feel like moving up and down those stairs many times, especially with luggage. Only consider stay at hotel if you are staying for the night and leaving early morning for th e toy train as the hotel is 700 meters from the railway station. We stayed for 1 night and room had basic amenities with a electric geyser in the bathroom.
