Entailing fables of numerous dynasties, Delhi is soaked in the glory of their remnant  traces. The Mauryas, Mughals, Khiljis, Tughlaqs and the Britishers are few significant dynasties that have ruled the city once upon a time. The ancient ruins that nestle in the entire city stand as an evidence of the majestic era that once was Delhi. The history of Delhi cues back to the age of the epic Mahabharata, when it was called Indraprastha. This historic city was one of the reasons for war between the estranged cousins Pandavas and the Kauravas.

In the 12th century the city was ruled by Qutb-ud-din Aybak, of the Turkic Slave dynasty who started to build the famous Qutub Minar that now is a UNESCO world heritage site. Succeeding the slave dynasty were major dynasties like the Khilji and the Tughlaqs. In the 15th century Zahiruddin Babur, a descendant of Timur and Genghis Khan from the Fergana Valley which is now in Uzbekistan, invaded India and defeated the last Lodhi sultan in the first battle of Panipat. This laid the foundation of the Mughal empire that had immense influence on the city. They were responsible for the city’s entire socio-economic and infrastructural development. After the fall of the Mughals it was the time of British, who made Delhi the capital of India.
