Want to explore Delhi on your own? Explore it through the different modes of transport that the city has to offer

Almost every nook and cranny of Delhi is well connected by the government run low floor DTC buses. Buses continue to be one of the cheapest modes of transport for local travel if one is prepared to brave the crowds. To make bus travel more comfortable, the government has also launched red coloured low floor air conditioned buses.

The fare for buses can vary according to the type of bus. It ranges from INR 5 to INR 15 for non AC buses and  from INR 10 to INR 25 for AC buses depending upon the distance.

Taxi and Car Hire

Taxis as well as car hire services are widely available throughout Delhi. Usually, people opt for these services when they go for long sightseeing tours. Taxis and car hires work out to be pretty expensive and one should negotiate the fare beforehand if possible. However, it is not possible with car hire agencies which have a set fare calculation system.

A couple of renowned car hire agencies in Delhi are Easy Cab, Meru Cab and Quick Cab.

The contact numbers for the same are:

Meru Cab: +91-11-44224422

Easy Cab: +91-11-43434343

Quick Cab: +91-11-45333333

Auto Rickshaw

Auto Rickshaws are a compromise between buses and taxis. In other words, these are costlier than buses but cheaper than taxis. While hiring an auto rickshaw, make sure that your driver turns on the meter. The meter starts from INR 19 when it starts and then adds the fare according to the distance covered. If you are going without meter, be familiar with the fare and negotiate the same beforehand.

Cycle rickshaw

Of course, Delhi has its fair share of street clogging cycle rickshaws. However, these rickshaws often prove to be your lifeline for short and sometimes not too short distances. Rickshaw fares start from 10 bucks and are negotiable.

and the very latest addition to the list is the

Delhi Metro

Ever since its inception, the metro has taken the city by storm. These air conditioned trains are very cheap, comfortable and fast. Tickets are available from 8 to 30 bucks and trains run every few minutes. Presently, Delhi metro network connects many of the important parts of Delhi through its different lines, namely Red, Green, Violet, Yellow, Blue, and the Airport Express. Further construction is being carried out on a war footing to extend the network. The important areas connected by the metro include Connaught Place, Hauz Khas, Central Secretariat, Kashmere Gate, Jahangirpuri, Dilshad Garden, Rithala, Noida, Dwarka, and Gurgaon.

Also try the Hop on Hop Off buses that are the low floored air conditioned buses run by the Delhi Tourism Department that cover almost all the important monuments, museums, temples, and shopping places. Pay INR 300 for a ticket that is valid for two consecutive days and explore the city at your own convenience. These buses run on a interval of 45 minutes. Hop off the bus at a destination, explore the place on your own and then hop on the next bus.

However, the services are not available on Mondays.
