A small city like Jaisalmer is best explored on foot, so strap on those reebok shoes which have been lying about forever and discover the Golden City the walkity way! If you don't want to take the pain, read on and find out more about the travel options within Jaisalmer:

  • Bikes

In the mood to return to your college days? Rent a bike and cruise around this small city! You can easily get this two wheeler from the road outside the main entrance to the fort. Renting a bike is set to cost you anywhere between INR 300 to INR 1000 a day, depending on the make of the bike, fuel charges are extra.
  • Taxi

If you want to head out of the city, you can take a cab from the numerous taxi stands that dot the cityscape. Depending on the type of car, be prepared to cough up anywhere between INR 10 to INR 15 per kilometre. You can also ask your hotel staff for assistance with the same, and the ready to please Rajasthani folk will surely help you bag the best of deals.
  • Autorickshaws

You can take an autorickshaw if you want to cut down on the long walks in the Golden City. You can take shared autos from the
Fort Gate to the Main Square, from the Lake to the Fort, from the Desert Cultural Centre to Hanuman Chowk and on a handful of other routes. These rides come at an inexpensive INR 10 per person. If you are quoted a price more than that, be ready to pull up your socks and bargain!
  • Camel Carts

Though a paid camel ride is one experience a trip to Jaisalmer is incomplete without, a camel cart ride is something which feels totally out of the world. You might be able to get a feel of this one only if you have a gift of the gab, as it requires being friendly and chatty with the old man who is taking his sacks down the city on a camel cart. Shed the inhibition, go forward and ask “Bhai-ji” for a ride, and trust me, you won’t regret it one bit!

Equipped with this knowledge, you are all set for your Jaisalmer expedition! Leap on for the experience of a lifetime rangers! Over and Out!
