Before you reach the beaches, temples and waterfalls, there is another destination, not one, many, which hide many more experiences within the roadside tea stall, the bird flying beside your flight and the croony singer on the train. Experience it and you will fall in love with your vacation even before you reach Kanyakumari.

  • By flight

The nearest airport to this town is the Thiruvananthapuram International Airport, which is at a distance of 93 km. International airlines like Air-India, have direct flight from places like Middle East, Singapore, Maldives and Sri Lanka. Once you reach the airport, you can either take a bus, a train or a taxi to the town and it will take less than 3 hours to finally reach there. If you are opting for taxi, your charges will be around INR 1000. For trains and buses, you can check out the Indian Railways and SETC website. You can also opt for flight service to Chennai, Bangalore and Kochi among others but the best option is Thiruvananthapuram. On top of the time you can save, this option will give you every chance to check out the panoramic view of the town and the sea. Don’t miss it out. Its not everyday that you can witness the tip of the country from above the sky, as you had always seen in maps when you were a kid.

  • By train

For some people train is always the more preferred option, than either flight or cabs. Apart from being a cheaper option the Indian experience that you get in a train, starting from milieu of people to the food is not to be found in any other means of transport. If you want to go for a more comfortable train ride, book tickets for the AC service. Either ways, the chugging of the train and its occasional whistle in the background will keep you swaying to the rhythm and you will also start whistling in return. Kanyakumari Railway Station is connected to all major railway stations of the country, including Bangalore and Delhi. But if your starting point has no train connection to the town, you can always go to Thiruvananthapuram first and either take a bus, a connecting train or cab. For detail information, including fares and timings, the Indian Railways website will solve the problem.

  • By road

Buses ply from major South Indian cities to Kanyakumari, the closest being Thiruvananthapuram. It takes less than 3 hours to reach the town and will cost you INR 150 to INR 300 by bus. You can also choose to drive on your own or hire a cab. If you are planning to hit the road, make sure your starting point is not that far from Kanyakumari. Many people might think of going to the state capital first, as it is the main point of the state and drive from there but Chennai is more than 600 km from the town and can be quite strenuous. The state bus service, SETC, will be a reliable option to start searching for routes, fares and travelling time. Alternatively, private cabs service can be contacted for your road trip.
