Planning a trip to the Yoga Capital of the world? Then you must need the different ways that you can use to reach the beautiful Rishikesh. There are multiple ways to reach the Gateway to the Himalayas and here is the information that you might need.

  • Air

Rishikesh is located closest to the Jolly Grant Airport in the neighboring Dehradun. This recently renovated airport handles only two flights from Delhi. So in short you can only reach Rishikesh or Dehradun to be more precise if you are coming from the capital city of the country. Once there, you can take taxis or cabs from the airport to Rishikesh. There are also buses available in the morning and the evenings for the same route. However, the runway at the airport is getting extended and will shortly take in flights from the other metros in the country.

  • Road

Another way to reach the thrilling Rishikesh is through car. The most simple option for the car lovers is driving from the Delhi and reach Rishikesh within six to seven hours of driving. Also, one can hire cabs and taxis for the same route along with air conditioned SUVs if you are a luxury lover. There are private bus services that run from Dehradun to Rishikesh and from Haridwar to Rishikesh with intervals throughout the day. For buses, you might end up paying around 300 to INR 750 depending on the route. However, the fares that are charged for taxis and cabs depend on the type of car that is chosen. Haggle over the fares with the private operators even if you are accustomed to the prices that they ask for. That is not to cut their business short but it’s because they quote charges that are way too much.

  • Rail

Rishikesh railway station is well connected to all the major cities in the country and hence is the most accessible mode of reaching the Yoga capital. The most popular route is of the Hemkunt Express that starts from Jammu. You can also look for the availability of Shatabdi Express from Delhi that leaves you at Haridwar from where you can take a cab to reach Rishikesh. The usual timings for the train is seven in the morning.

There is also a quiet branch of rail line that connects Rishikesh to Haridwar through three trains in a day. The railway station is accessible through shared auto rickshaws for which you have to pay around INR 45 a person. Also something to keep in mind is that these trains stop for a very short duration at small railway stations on the way so you should not relax too much on some station otherwise you will find yourself stranded alone without your beloved luggage.

  • By Bus

Traveling in buses is also a wonderful option for those who want to enjoy the beautiful locales on their way through the jittery glasses of the buses. Rishikesh is connected to many major cities such as Jaipur, Varanasi, Pushkar, and Delhi through road and hence there are bus services running on all the routes. From Delhi ISBT, there are many bus services running at different intervals for Rishikesh which are a favourable option for the bus lovers.

In Rishikesh, there are several tour operators around the
Swarg Ashram and the Lakshman Jhula that arrange for bus services on these routes. Although enjoyable, you should avoid traveling to Rishikesh through a bus during July, the month of Savan during which the town is crowded and many roads are blocked. A bus service would cost you around INR 250 to INR 500 depending on the route that you take.

Different ways to reach, different ways to enjoy, Rishikesh is going to be fun! Don’t wait, go explore the rocking Rishikesh.
