Travelling within Guwahati city is very convenient. No matter where you are in the city you will never get lost here. Public transportation is quite reliable and handy at all times. So, lets look at the various options you will have here to travel from one place to the other in Guwahati:

  • By City Bus

The city bus service in Guwahati is very efficient. You will find bus stops in all the major points in the city. It is the best and cheapest way to travel in Guwahati. Even if the condition of the buses are not up to the notch, but it is the main means of transportation for the local people in the city. The minimum fare in that is being charged in these buses is INR 3 and the maximum is INR 30. The only problem to travel by bus is that they tend to get very crowded

  • By Auto

You can also opt for autos to travel within the city. The autos here do not have meters so negotiate upon a price before boarding. They are comparatively pricier than buses but it’s a good way to avoid the crowd and when you are not sure of your way around it is advisable to take an auto. Moreover, they do not have any night charges as such, so, do not hesitate to haggle for prices no matter what hour of the day it is.

  • By Cycle Rickshaw

Rickshaws are found in every nook and corner in the city. They will take you from one place to the other at a minimal charge. The rickshaws here are quite comfy and the best option for short distances. The minimum fare they would charge from you would start from INR 5.

You can also hire cabs to travel the long distances, they charge INR 15 per kilometre. Albeit, the colours of this lovely city cannot be experienced when you travel sitting inside your AC car, but only when you step out and roam around the city freely.

In certain areas there are trekker vehicle vehicles... especially on the National Highway on the outer sides of the city... they are run on a shared basis and often overloaded with people... but more frequent than the buses on those routes and cost slightly more...
