So once you have reached the pilgrimage city of Haridwar, the only issue that rises is how to travel within the city to reach wherever you want to reach, right? If that's true, then don't worry because I am going to list some of the options that you can choose from for travelling within the holy city.

  • Taxi

Taxi is one of the easiest ways of travelling within this old city. They are readily available at the airport, railway station and the bus stand. Taking a cab or a taxi is also one of the most favourable options as it is a more personalised and definitely the most comfortable mode. Taxis and cabs generally charge you around INR 500 from the airport and INR 200 from the railway station to reach the centre of town. Although you should always keep in mind that bargaining is going to take you a long way while dealing with the operators.

  • Local Train/Bus

Another very interesting option is using the railway network within town. The interstate railway lines serves you as one of the fastest modes of travelling within Haridwar. If you are among those who like to travel by modes with an old world charm then using the local bus is going to be your thing. The fares for these modes are not bargainable so don't waste your energy on that. Fares for the local train start from around INR 30 which can go up depending upon the distance. For buses, the fares start from around INR 10 onwards.

  • Auto Rickshaw and Rickshaw

If auto rickshaws is your thing, then Haridwar is going to please you with that too. You can also try the shared autos (Vikram) which travel on different routes within town. Auto rickshaws or Rickshaws are one of the most accessible options and they become all the more impressive because of their reach to the most crowded gullies and lanes of this old town. They charge you around INR 20 for short distances and the fares can definitely go up depending on the distance. But! Yes, there is a but! You can very easily haggle over fares with the operators as they seem to charge more from the people who appear to be new to the place. That's natural, isn't it?

Hop on to any of the above options and get going with the exploration of one of the holiest places in the country. Enjoy!
