Once you’ve reached Jalandhar, travel within the city looks like a cakewalk. What else will you call it when there are ample rickshaws, autos and buses waiting to pick you up and drop you at your destination. To travel within Jalandhar, pick between:

  • Cycle Rickshaws

The most popular mode of travel in Jalandhar is the cycle rickshaw. And the streets are flooded with these. For short distances, there couldn’t be a better option. Fix the price before you climb on to a rickshaw.

  • Auto

The city is dotted with big black autos called bhoond meaning beetle in Punjabi. These are usually shared autos that will charge you INR 10 or INR 20 depending on the distance you travel. You can hire the smaller autos for yourself, though the search may be a bit harder. There isn’t a meter policy here so you better fix a deal before you hop on. The shared autos are also a convenient option especially when traveling from the city to Jalandhar cant.

  • Buses

You’ll find private buses, those run by the state and luxury coaches as well. With comfortable seats, this is a convenient travel option. Finding your way around the city in buses isn’t difficult at all. Not even if you are in Jalandhar for the first time. The buses have destination boards plus the sing song manner in which the conductors scream out the destination and route of the bus is really hard to miss.

  • Cabs

The local taxi services are a very popular travel option especially if you are travelling in larger groups. You’ll find a taxi operator at almost every corner in Jalandhar. You are more likely to find a private taxi than Meru or Quick Cabs. You need not get into any bargaining hassles as these run by meter. Most bus stands will have a taxi stand positioned right in its vicinity. There will be one near the railway station as well. If you still have a problem finding one, just ask your hotel to get you in touch with one.

With the friendly locals around, that last thing you need to worry is about getting lost. The moment you think you have trailed off, stop and ask for directions. The taxi drivers and bus conductors too will only be happy to help you out.
