How can one travel within Rishikesh?

0 people found this answer useful Useful ?Yes

Reaching Rishikesh is not a task and so is traveling within the town. All you non-walkers, note that there are some portions of the town such as Lakshman Jhula and Ram Jhula which are pedestrian only. Although you can explore the natural and religious beauty that rest of the town has to offer on foot but why to put all the stress on your legs when your pocket can share some.

  • You can take an auto rickshaw from the train and bus stations for almost all the parts of the town. The auto rickshaw walas generally charge you INR 15 per km. There are no fixed fares and you can easily exercise your bargaining power on the operators. You can also share autos or Vikrams as they are called which charge generally INR 10 to INR 30 per passenger.

  • There are also buses available for the parts of the town which are accessible through broad roads. They are not only cheap but easily available from different bus stands and can take you to almost all the major attractions in Rishikesh. If not to the exact location, they will leave you somewhere very close from where you can do a little walking.

Like any other Indian town, Rishikesh also has several windows open for successfully haggling over fares and prices some of which are fixed though. However, one should try his/her level best to do that whenever possible.

Also, one should take good care of the belongings and should not rely on an information given by a stranger or local blindly about the routes that you should take.
There are several people at the railway and bus station who will come forward to help you with your luggage. Do not trust anyone blindly and use your discretion on who to trust.

You just focus on exploring the place, leave rest upon the broad shoulders of this beautiful historic town.
