Gangasagar is an ideal place to visit. I suggest to visit gangasagar in off time to enjoy more.To cross Muri ganga by big launch is a superb journey !

How to visit Sundarbans from Kolkata

To visit Sundarbans from Kolkata, you can take a train from the Sealdah Railway Station to Canning, which is a ride of about 2 hours.

From Canning, you will need to make your way to Godkhali Port,situated 29 km from the railway station. You can make this journey by bus or cab. Once you reach Godkhali Port, you will need to get yourself on a motor boat to finally reach Sundarban National Park.

Please note that foreign national require a permit to be allowed into the Sundarban National Park. The same can be obtained at:

There are also other ways of doing this journey like travelling to Basanti or Sonakhaliand from there taking a boat to Sajnekhali.
Whichever way you choose to make your trip to Sunderbans, it can prove to be quite labourious if done independently. It is recommended you travel with an operator, so that you can save yourself the hassle of having to deal with boat permits and tickets.

How to visit Sundarbans from Kolkata

Even though it is only 135 km from Kolkata, reaching Gangasagar is one arduous task. You need to take a bus to Kakdwip from Esplande (3 hours). From Kakdwip, you will need to cross the Muriganga River by boat to reach Kachuberia. From here, you can take a bus to Gangasagar, which will be an hour long ride.
