Mohali is world famous for Phulkari, a kind of embroidery, and its a huge lure for travellers. While Phul means flower and Kar means work, hence Phulkari means flower work, an art which literally transforms the vibrancy of flowers on fabric with the help of beautifully intricate details and craftsmanship. This beautiful embroidery work by every means is big as fashion statement but what sets it apart is the cultural connotation it carries along. The use of vibrant colors in its pattern like red, orange, fuchsia, green, blue and yellow has an auspicious, almost sacred importance in the heart of women who wear them.

It is a definite must have in every girl’s trousseau and is often worn on important ceremonies like weddings and pooja. This art is surely a traditional one but now has many new interpretations, from reversible Phulkari options which can be worn in more than one way to use of this traditional pattern in modern and western silhouettes.

Nowadays Phulkari is not limited to suits, sarees or traditional Indian wear but has diversified in a huge way into home decor as bed sheets, table spreads to evening gowns, giving a chic and contemporary reinterpretation to this traditional style, just by styling it differently. Phulkari interprets the evolving dynamics of culture through its design today.
